The fact of being interested in a particular matter or having an objective acts as a filter that only lets the interesting information pass and all it does not consider as necessary goes to the subconscious. If this selector is not given the order of collecting this information, it will get lost or remain unattended. For this reason, it is important to have a focus to think about.
To focus on achievement, according to NLP, a person needs to believe in three things:
1.- It is possible to achieve an objective
Do not mistake possibility for competence. Sometimes, the problem is that we do not know how to do it.
2.- We can achieve it
The first thing we have to do is to change our language and, thus, our way of thinking and our belief. We have to leave apart some statements or self-dialogues, such as “I am not able to do it”, “I cannot…”; and change them for some others such as “I cannot do it now, but by doing this other thing…” or “I am going to get the tools to do it”.
The problem with the incompetence statements is that when we send them out, people believes them and when we think them for ourselves, we auto-limit.
3.- Merit
Many times, we believe we do not deserve what we have achieved. The achievement is 10% motivation and 90% perseverance, as Beethoven said.
Attitude is everything: “life is not about waiting for the storm to be over … it is about learning to dance in the rain”
Clues to establish objectives
RULES
1.- Express the objective positively
2.- It has to be measurable. We cannot manage what cannot be measured.
3.- Ambitious, but reachable.
4.- Environment friendly: what impact it has on other areas of me or on other people.
5.- It has to bear an action plan.
WORKING MODEL
1Â GENERAL OBJECTIVE | |
2Â METAOBJECTIVE Â
 |
The objective of the objective. What I want to reach this objective for.Having a clear Metaobjective gives a more global vision of the matter: what I am pursuing the Objective for. On the other hand, it enables to change the General Objective if it is impossible or too costly, keeping the same Metaobjective. That is, the person can wander: How can I achieve my Metaobjective in a different way?
|
3  SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES | When defining the general objective, as such, it might be difficult to “get our teeth into it” and it is necessary to break it into sub-objectives or specific objectives. Is it advisable to formulate sub-objectives? |
4Â TIME HORIZON | 1ST sub-objective: xx/xx/xx2nd sub-objective: xx/xx/xx
|
5Â COMMITTMENTSÂ | Task distributionPerson 1: ……Person 2: …… |
6Â EVIDENCES | How I will know I got it
